Almost time for the countdown

I finished the last of my edits on Stars Cry Out No More and sent it off for my last proof reading. I also got the synopsis done and discovered something strange. I actually enjoyed writing my synopsis (I know, I'm a freak ;-) ).

So all I have left is to polish up my query and send it in. *crosses fingers*

To help try and organize my querying I'm going to write up index cards for each agent I've decided to query. I already have a notebook with a bunch of info on each (Email, web page, favorite kind of drink). I call it my stalker file, referring to an article I read somewhere taking about doing lots of research on potential agents.

For instance, I've been following Jennifer Jackson's blog and I saw her say in the comments one time that she preferred to be addressed in queries "Dear Ms.Jackson" (stalker file). On Nathan Bransford's blog he has mentioned several times that he wants personalized queries (stalker file) and that he doesn't like them to start with a rhetorical question (not that I would anyway, but still, stalker file).

After my stalker index cards are all in order I can move them from "waiting to be queried" to "queried" to "requested partials" etc.

So just as a recap of all my noveling progress:

Stars Cry Out No More
Status: Finished
Synopsis: Yes
Query: No

In the Twilight Between
Status: First draft done, ready to edit
Synopsis: No
Query: No

Sleeper's Garden
Status: still writing first draft
Synopsis: No
Query: No

Congratulations on finishing your edits! And yay for you that you enjoyed writing the synopsis - I still have that particular experience to come!

It sounds like you're very organised with the agents - most impressive! I would be very surprised if I turned out to be the same!

I am also very impressed by the fact that you have titles for all three of those projects!

So exciting! Hope the last proofreading goes well. As for your stalker files, have you considered Excel or something similar? That's what I'm doing and it's made the organization super easy. Still, I know some people like tangible techniques instead of computer ones.

@Davina- Good luck with your future synopsis!

My organization is actually borderline paranoia. The last thing I want to do is query the same agent twice, get their name wrong or whatever else. >.<

Don't be too impressed, the titles for every project is a need not a want. I have so many ideas floating around in my head at one time (and in my note books), if I don't have a name to tie them all together then they get lost or jumbled. So as soon as something solidifies as a good idea that I want to develop into a full story, it gets a name.
That and I just love coming up with titles, especially poetic type ones :-)

@Caryn- I do have a digital copy of my files, but I'm incredibly paranoid that my computer will crash and I'll lose all of it (that happened with my last computer >.<). So I've just been trying to keep both versions up to date.

@Pam- Lol! Us stalkers have to stick together ;-)
